Getting to you in Paradise
Paradise, CA is roughly 30 minutes from our shop at 6565 Lincoln Blvd in Oroville, up the Skyway from Highway 70, about 20 miles. On a scheduled clean that is just logistics. On a water loss it is the whole job: water spreads through a building on its own schedule, and the difference between arriving in half an hour and arriving the next morning is often the difference between drying a floor and replacing it.
We work across Butte County and know Paradise well enough to find you without a second phone call — whether you are near the Skyway or out towards the Feather River canyon below the Ridge.
What Paradise buildings are actually like
Overwhelmingly new. The Camp Fire destroyed the great majority of the structures on the Ridge on 8 November 2018, and almost everything standing today was built from 2019 onward — new slabs, new plumbing, new HVAC, and finish materials that are only a few years old. A minority of homes survived, and those are a completely different proposition. The town has also been putting in a sewer system where the Ridge has historically been on septic.
We see this across the Skyway corridor, Pearson Road, the Magalia edge and Old Clark Road, and it decides how we scope a job before any equipment comes through the door.
What goes wrong here
A new house fails at the appliance, not the foundation
On a home built in the last five years we are almost never dealing with a failing structure. We are dealing with a washing-machine hose, a refrigerator ice-maker line, a dishwasher supply, or a water heater installed at the same time as everything else on the street and now reaching the same age. Any of those floods a brand-new floor as thoroughly as an old one, and on a slab the water runs sideways under the flooring where you cannot see it.
Septic, wells, and what is actually in the water
Much of the Ridge is still on septic and on private wells while the sewer project works through it. When a bathroom backs up on a septic system, the category of water is different from a clean supply-line break, and so is the way the contents and the structure have to be handled. Tell us on the phone which one you are on — it changes what we bring.
Fire season did not end in 2018
Ash still reaches the Ridge every summer, and it reaches new carpet and new upholstery exactly the way it reached the old. Households that rebuilt tend to be careful about their finishes, which is a good reason to have them cleaned properly rather than scrubbed.
Repairs and permits in Paradise
Most of what we do needs no permit at all — cleaning, refinishing a floor, stretching a carpet, drying a building out. Where a water loss has gone far enough that structural work follows, that work is permitted in Paradise through the Town of Paradise Building Division, and it is worth knowing which office you are dealing with before a contractor tells you. We will hand over our moisture documentation to whoever does the rebuild so nothing has to be re-established from scratch.
